Gain Productivity on Your Notebook Computer with a USB Mouse
Does the touchpad on your laptop give you nothing but trouble? I know the feeling! Unless a laptop is your main computer, you may have a hard time switching from a mouse on your main machine to the touchpad.
I know that a lot of people find trackpads hard to use. It's very easy to accidentally send your mouse cursor flying across the screen with a stray touch of the pad. This really becomes a problem when trying to do work that requires precise control of the mouse such as photo editing or organizing a large number of files.
The easiest way to fix this is to simply plug in an external mouse. Many people find external mice easier to use, more comfortable and more precise.
There are two choices when it comes to mice. With a cord or without. Corded mice are inexpensive and widely available. Almost everyone has an extra mouse laying around. The drawback is the cord. They are usually very long and tend to get in the way or get caught on objects on your desk or work area.
Cordless mice have no wires at all and take up very little space on your desk. Some models store the USB dongle in the body of the mouse when you aren't using it. Just pull out the dongle and plug it into any available USB port. That's it! Battery life is the only drawback to wireless mice. The battery always tends to run out of juice right when you are in the process of doing something very important on your computer. Carrying an extra battery or using rechargeable ones can help with this issue.
One tip that really helped me out when using an external mouse on my netbook is to go into the mouse settings and turn on the option to disable the trackpad when an external mouse is plugged in. This will eliminate accidental touches of the trackpad. A simple but very helpful feature!
The best way to improve the usability of your laptop is to start using an external mouse. Quit fiighting with your touchpad and test it out. It really does make using your laptop more enjoyable!
